After my last trip to Spain, I had 4 days of rest in Cleveland before I got to head to Los Angeles to hang out with Caitlin and Zac to take their Santa Monica Pier engagement photos! I can always tell when a couple is going to be fun to work with based off their initial inquiry. Right away, I could tell these two were full of energy and ready to have a good time. These two were so playful with each other, and that connection definitely shows in the photos below. As you can see, we had a ton of fun goofing off together and enjoying a beautiful Santa Monica Pier engagement session. I spent the whole day at the pier before Caitlin and Zac got there and soaked up the awesome California energy (and sun).
I’ve also been taking a few workshops to really try and nail down my intentions as a photographer. One thing I’m trying is lessening the amount of gear I take to a session to help me be more focused on what it is that I’m trying to achieve. So what did I take to LA with me you ask? Here you go:
- 1 – Nikon D750
- 1 – Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens
- 1 – Nikon 58mm f/1.4 G Len
- 1 -Nikon AF DC-NIKKOR 135mm f/2D Lens
- 2 – Nikon SB-910 flash
- and batteries and pocket wizards and stuff
This minimal setup let me focus a lot more on being intentional with what I was trying to achieve. I’ll be even more excited when I can get rid of the pocket wizards once I pick up the new Nikon SB-5000 flash units that have the radio control lighting system!
