Hawaii Wedding Photographer – Jason Thomas Crocker Photography

Cheyenne and Ben were awesome enough to let me be a part of their big day in paradise. The beautiful ceremony and reception were held at Wailea Golf Club and Gannon’s Restaurant. As a Hawaii Wedding Photographer, one of main things I noticed that was very different from my hometown of Cleveland was the sun’s light quality and the amount of open sunlight that was hitting the island all day long, basically every day. One thing I’ll do when shooting a destination wedding is make sure that I get there at least a few days in advance. This allows me to check out the venues as well as lighting conditions and potential places to photograph the couple. This is also a good time to talk to locals to learn about any unique places off the beaten path and find out where to get the best coconut drink!

Another favorite part about shooting destination weddings is the relationships that form. Learning about family dynamics and becoming friends with everyone is always so fun. I get an inside look to daily life and families get pretty rad vacation photos as well. With this crew, we enjoyed time laying on the beach, snorkeling, hiking, driving the famous Road to Hana and eating as much local food as we could get our hands on! While snorkeling, a few of us swam up on a sea turtle. I swam next to this guy for about 5 minutes. This experience was easily one of the highlights of the trip. The sea turtle was so beautiful as it glided effortlessly in the ocean.

We pretty much got to explore the whole island of Maui which was so awesome. We started off staying in Kihei which offers tons of activities. After that, we moved up the mountain to Kula where we stayed in a countryside AirBNB. From there we drove down to Hana and stayed the night in a tent on a park. That night was a little insane as I was sure that the storm would lift our tent and place us in the ocean where there were about 15-20 foot waves happening. After that, we went back up to Kula and checked out the Ocean Vodka Distillery. Their vodka is so smooth and the most interesting thing to learn about was how they obtain their water that they mix with their vodka. Long story short, super old glaciers at the bottom of the ocean floor!

After Cheyenne and Ben’s family left the island, I moved down to Lahaina and stayed a few extra days. By chance, a couple of friends from back home were visiting Maui toward the end of my trip so I extended a couple days so I could hang out with them! We checked out the Pineapple Plantation and ate pineapples until we got sick. We also spent a day driving around taking photos of them as a couple’s session. One of these days I’ll actually blog it (still need to get better about blogging).

Hawaii was an amazing time and I’m so thankful for getting the opportunity to spend time with Cheyenne, Ben and their families. Thank you again for reading, be sure to share these images with your friends and family if you enjoy them!
